Gold Coast to feature its own MONOPOLY board

2018 has already been a historic year for the Gold Coast, and the momentous occasions continue, with the announcement that the city will be celebrated with its very own official Gold Coast MONOPOLY board.

From October, locals and tourists alike will be able to play the world’s most popular board game in a way that immortalises their most loved Gold Coast.

From now until September fans will be able to voice which locations they would like to see featured on the board via the official Gold Coast MONOPOLY Facebook page or by email, with prizes up for grabs to fans who include the hashtag #GoldCoastMonopoly.

The edition will see locally themed squares replace Mayfair and Park Lane from the original London MONOPOLY board, and include customised ‘Community Chest’ and ‘Chance’ playing cards, making the entire game a truly Gold Coast experience.

This week at the iconic SkyPoint Observation Deck the Gold Coast Acting Mayor – Donna Gates – made the exciting announcement alongside the Gold Coast Titans team and the city’s iconic Meter Maids.

Gold Coast Acting Mayor, Donna Gates said, “We’re thrilled that our much loved region is going to be immortalised with its very own Monopoly board. There’s no doubt that the Gold Coast is renowned for its natural beauty, so I imagine Broadbeach and Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary will be on the list of contenders for the coveted spots. We’re very lucky to have an immense list of amazing options. I definitely encourage everyone to suggest locations and support your favourite local gems missing out!”

The Titans team are hoping Cbus Super Stadium makes it onto the board, while the Meter Maids are backing the famous Cavill Avenue.

Winning Moves, manufacturers of the official Gold Coast version of MONOPOLY under license from Hasbro, say the game will be on shelves in October.

Winning Moves Managing Director, Reid Herbert said: “We want to ensure that Gold Coast MONOPOLY is a true portrayal of what locals love about the city, so we would love for everyone to get on board and send us suggestions of what they would like included on the board.

“This edition will be everything you love about the traditional board, adapted in a way that all Gold Coast goers will enjoy for years to come,” he adds.

MONOPOLY first hit the shelves in 1935 – since then it has been played by more than 1 billion people. Today it is played in 114 countries and enjoyed in over 47 different languages.

The new MONOPOLY: Gold Coast Edition will be available in October from leading toy retailers across the region.
